About Us

Smoke Free Chattanooga is a voluntary community coalition made up of organizational and individual members, including the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association, Memorial Healthcare System, Chattanooga Medical Society, as well as individual members concerned about the impact of tobacco use on health.

For several years, Smoke Free Chattanooga (formerly Tobacco Free Tennessee) has taken a public stand on key issues related to tobacco, and among other victories, helped to secure the Non-Smoker Protection Act of 2007, that reduces secondhand smoke exposure in most workplaces in Tennessee, and also raised the state's tobacco excise tax by an additional 42 cents.

The coalition's current advocacy effors are focused on several priority areas, including: restoring local control of tobacco policy, and helping area organizations adopt tobacco policies that reduce harm. The coalition also works to insure reduction in the number of youth who are initiation tobacco use through preventive education, and promotes smoking cessation efforts in the community and at employer worksites.
